Taimoon Stewart
Dr Taimoon Stewart, an Associate Senior Fellow, received a BA (Special
Honours) in History from the University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica
in 1969. She obtained
a
Post-Graduate Diploma in International Relations in 1987 and a PhD
International Relations in 1993 from the Institute of International Relations,
UWI, St. Augustine, and subsequently received specialized training in
the areas of trade-related environmental issues, intellectual property
issues and competition law and policy. Her work is policy-oriented and
revolves around political economy issues, primarily as they relate to
the new areas of international
trade. She specializes in competition law and policy.
Dr Stewart is currently the Vice President and Acting Chair of the Negotiating
Group on Competition Policy (NGCP) in the Free Trade Area of the Americas
negotiations, and has served as Lead Negotiator for CARICOM in the NGCP.
She also represented Trinidad and Tobago at meetings of the WTO Working
Group on Trade and Competition Policy, promoting the concerns of smaller
economies. She worked as a consultant to the ACP Secretariat in its preparations
for re-negotiation of the LOME Agreement with the EU, helping to draft
the chapter on competition policy of the Cotonou Agreement. She has also
consulted for the CARICOM Secretariat and the private sector in the region.
