UWI Life / FYE Programme
- Meet & Greet: The UWI values our regional and international students and as such we have provided a link between you and a secure taxi to take you to your residence in Trinidad and Tobago, along with a greeter at the airport. (August 18-29)
- Campus Tours: Come and experience a tour of where you will be studying at the campus. Faculty campus tours aid students in navigating the campus before the first day of lectures, led by fellow students in your faculties. (August 18-29)
- Check-in: This is a weekend orientation for first-time regional and international students. Students participate in an array of activities intended to introduce them to life on campus as well as life in Trinidad and Tobago. (August 23-24)
- Welcome Home: These are orientation events for students who reside on Halls. At Welcome Home, information is provided on integration into hall life in an interactive way. (September 2-4)
- Know Your Faculty: This event’s aim is to provide comprehensive information on the faculty in which the student is enrolled. (August 25-27 and September 2-5)
- UWI Life Support: This is a programme for friends and family of our entrants, whom they depend on for support in their studies. This programme provides the support network with information needed to support their loved ones and the reassurance that they need while their loved ones are on campus. (August 28)
- UWI Life Student & Information Village: This event aims to create a buzz among new students about their academic journey and life at The UWI. It helps to make the transition to campus life a smooth one for new students by providing relevant and timely information. (August 29)
- UWI Life Prime: This event aims to assist our Evening University and mature students in finding ways for dealing with and balancing their professional, personal and academic lives (August 30).
- UWI Guild Fest: This event brings together all the university clubs, island associations and societies to promote different aspects of the campus community, through activities that take place outside the learning environment (August 27- September 5)
- Know Your Library: This library orientation event introduces the first year university students to the libraries on the campus and makes students aware of the services, rules and policies of the library (September 2-13)
- Health & Well Being: These are workshops that introduce students to the meaning of taking charge for one’s health and are provided by the Health Services Unit (HSU). (September 15 & 22, October 20 & 27)
- UWI Clicks: This workshop aims to provide an introduction to the University’s website and a how-to guide in navigating it to find student resources. (August 18-22 & 28; September 4; January 22 & 29)
- Matriculation: This is a ceremony to formally recognise and induct new students as members of The UWI’s academic community (September 18)
- The Postgraduate Experience: These are workshops organised by Graduate Studies to prepare postgraduate students for study and address the issues they will face during this stage of academic study. (September 17 & October 8)
- Study Skills: These are workshops that provide students with useful information on time management and effective studying techniques. (October 16 &18; November 20; February 5 & 26)
- Career Seminars: These seminars aim to make students aware of life after university, that is, having a career. It provides information to students in order to start the planning process for the next stage in life. (September 25, October 2, 9 and 16)
- Exchange Orientation: This serves as the University’s welcome for incoming exchange/study abroad students to the campus. Students are equipped with the knowledge of what may affect them, for example, immigration, housing and adapting to life in Trinidad and Tobago(January 19)
- Service Learning Symposium: This serves as an introduction to students of the idea of service learning and volunteering. (March 12)
- Co-curricular Seminar: This serves as an introduction to co-curricular activities and courses on the campus. These help to develop the students’ other skills, such as workplace etiquette and how-to guides on the Microsoft Office suite of applications (March 5)
