OHSE COORDINATOR (GRADE 10)


Office of Occupational Health, Safety and the Environment

Applications are invited for the post of OHSE Coordinator (Grade 10) in the Office of Occupational Health, Safety and the Environment.

Duties of the post include:

1. Establishing and coaching OHSE committees.

2. Facilitating (conduct/review) risk assessments.

3. Ensuring relevant standard operating procedures (SOP) are documented and current as required by the risk assessments.

4. Ensuring SOPs and OHSE Policies and Procedures are communicated to relevant personnel annually.

5. Ensuring up-to-date risk reduction plans are developed and approved.

6. Developing and implementing Emergency Response Plans.

7. Developing and implementing Occupational Hygiene monitoring plans.

8. Ensuring an up-to-date chemical inventory is in place with the associated current Safety Data Sheets.

9. Developing and maintaining an up-to-date register of safety-critical devices. 

10. Implementing a monthly inspection schedule for safety-critical devices.

11. Ensuring required equipment is inspected and certified as required.

12. Submitting monthly OHSE performance reports and trend analysis.

13.  Establishing a corrective action tracking system. Ensure that the status of corrective actions is discussed, approved, and tracked to closure.

14. Facilitating /scheduling delivery of internal and external OHSE training.

15. Implementing Campus OHSE Policies and Procedures within the Faculty.

16. Ensuring incidents are reported to the OHSE Unit (before the end of the workday).

17. Assisting in conducting incident investigations.

18. Any other related duties as may be assigned by the OHSE Manager.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Applicants should have knowledge and familiarity with the University’s mission, regulations, structure, policies and procedures.  Applicants must have knowledge of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 2004 amended 2006, The Environmental Management Act 2000 and associated rules as well as other HSE standards and industry best practices. Applicants should possess skills in risk assessment and incident investigation. Applicants must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and various stakeholders and communicate both verbally and in writing.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

Candidates must possess an approved Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Occupational Health Safety and the Environment or Natural Resource Management or Occupational Safety and Health from a registered/recognized institution.

 

Preferred

Candidates who also possess certification or any other industry safety accreditations in Health, Safety/Environmental Management e.g. NEBOSH, IOSH will have an advantage.

 

EXPERIENCE

At least (5) five years of relevant work experience in the area of OHSE.  Candidates must possess at least one (1) to three (3) years of supervisory experience.

Salary will be fixed in accordance with Grade 10 of the salary scale ($10,761.00 x 376 - $15,273.00).
