Reflective Practice
Reflective practice in teaching and learning involves the deliberate and thoughtful examination of one’s teaching methods, strategies, and experiences to improve the quality of education provided to students. It’s a process of self-awareness and critical inquiry that allows educators to reflect on their teaching practices, identify areas for growth, and make informed adjustments to enhance student learning outcomes. In essence, reflective practice serves as a powerful tool for self-improvement, empowering educators to continuously refine their teaching methods, nurture student success, and contribute to the ongoing advancement of teaching and learning. Curriculum Design
Curriculum design is a systematic process for creating effective learning experiences that enhance student engagement and achievement. It involves the careful planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of instructional materials and strategies to achieve defined learning outcomes. By applying sound instructional design principles, educators can enhance the effectiveness of their teaching, promote active learning, and empower students to achieve deeper understanding and mastery of subject matter. Instructional design not only improves quality and achievement of learning outcomes but also promotes a more inclusive and equitable educational experience for all learners.
The Curriculum Review Workflow diagram below outlines the workflow for submitting and approving a curriculum proposal through the Faculty and the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL). It traces each stage—from the initial preparation and internal faculty review, to faculty board approval and subsequent submission to CETL. The CETL review process ensures alignment with UWI standards, culminating in the issuance of an approval memo and the inclusion of the proposal in the CETL queue. Decision points are also highlighted, showing where proposals may be returned for revision at various stages.
