The Department of Economics University of the West Indies, St Augustine, in collaboration with the Trinidad and Tobago Institute of the West Indies (TTIWI) and the Oilfield Workers Trade Union (OWTU), are pleased to present the conference – “Accounting for the Petro-Dollar”. The conference draws its theme from two official Government documents produced in the decade of the first oil boom, (1974-83) by then Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Dr. Eric Williams.

The Conference will be held on the 14th and 15th of November, 2005 at the University of the West Indies Institute of Business (IOB) Auditorium, and is being coordinated by the Department of Economics. The objectives are:

  1. To provide information on the collection and disbursement of oil and gas revenues in Trinidad and Tobago.
  2. To discuss the broader impacts of the oil and gas industry on the economy, society and environment.
  3. To share international experiences on oil and gas industry accountability; and
  4. To discuss the role of civil society in monitoring industry impacts.
