Professor Kapil Kumar
Professor Kapil Kumar joined the UWI as the Chair for Contemporary Indian Studies in the Dept. of History, before this he was the Chairperson of the History Faculty at the Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi. A champion of Applied History, he conceptualized and developed the Tourism Studies Programmes for Distance and Open Learning and since 1993 has been a resource person for training Tourism managers, guides and escorts for both, the Government as well as private sector organizations. For ten years he was a member of the Board of Governors of the two leading Indian Government Tourism organizations, the Indian Institute of Tourism &Travel Management and National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology. In 2008 he was awarded the Endeavour Award by the Australian Government to work on Convict Heritage Tourism as a Visiting Professor at Monash University. As a Fellow of the Australia‐India Council he also researched how Australia has converted its heritage into Tourism products in 2007.
He has four books and thirty research papers to his credit, published in Indian and international journals with more than 36 years of teaching and research experience and has been a professor since 1991. He is a widely travelled scholar having been to 37 countries and presented papers at 25 international conferences. Modern Indian History, Heritage Studies and Tourism are his areas of specialization.
