What is the Academic Literacies Programme (ALP)

The Academic Literacies Programme delivers compulsory Foundation Academic Literacies courses to the Faculties of Law, Social Sciences, Science & Technology, Food & Agriculture, Sport, and Humanities & Education.

Applicable skills

Students enroll in faculty-specific courses. All courses stress the development of skills in formal Academic Literacies competency relevant to core faculty disciplines.

Industry links

Course-specific visits from experts and practitioners in the field are encouraged. These offer opportunities for students to listen to and learn about the importance of Academic Literacies in the workplace.

Research

Each course offers course-specific research-based activities.

Student Activities

Students are encouraged to participate in all activities offered by the DMLL as well as their core faculties which include but are not limited to the following:

  • Theatre Festival
  • Linguistics Day
  • Modern Languages and Linguistics Clubs
  • Language Labs

Unsuccessful candidates are strongly encouraged to request and attend these sessions.

Requests for Consultations

Requests are open to candidates who were unsuccessful in the August 2026 ELPT sitting.

Request Period

You can submit requests from Monday, 7th September to Friday, 18th September, 2026.

Cost

Consultations are free of charge.
