Climate Change and Health Leadership Fellow 

Steve Daniel is an Environmental Health Specialist with responsibility for Water Sanitation and Climate Change in the Ministry of Health and Wellness, Barbados. He is the technical focal point for climate change and health within the ministry and is presently responsible for supporting the development of Barbados’ Health National Adaptation Plans (HNAPs). In addition, he coordinates the development of regulatory procedures and policies for water quality, sanitation and the management of environmental pollutants in Barbados. 

Mr. Daniel, the recipient of Barbados National Development and British Chevening Scholarships, has a wide portfolio of technical training, having completed post-graduate studies at the University of Surrey in the UK, University of the West Indies, Cave Hill and the University of Technology, Jamaica. Before his role as Environmental Health Specialist, he functioned as a field officer in the Environmental Health Department and spent a further five years in the post Senior Environmental Protection Officer at the Environmental Protection Department of the Ministry of Environment. His career experiences have consistently focused on the protection of the public’s health from environmentally driven risks. 

Within the past decade, Mr. Daniel has been central to the coordination of national emergency responses to water, sanitation and environmental management issues. He has worked collaboratively with a wide range of government organizations and NGOs to restore and maintain satisfactory environmental standards. Mr. Daniel is presently a Climate Change and Health Leaders Fellow with the University of the West Indies and Pan American Health Organization.
