Shanika Shantel John - a youthful, vibrant and dynamic Vincentian professional is currently serving as a Health Promotion Specialist in the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment. Her responsibilities include but are not limited to the dissemination of information regarding various health issues at hand, managing and monitoring health initiatives for her country, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
Ms. John was selected as one of the youth advisors for the COP 2017. In 2018 Shanika was also selected to attend ECOSOC, the youth forum held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York which focused on ‘The role of youth in building sustainable and resilient urban and rural communities.’ In September of 2019, Shanika was a youth representative at the Youth Climate Change Conference held in NY at the UN headquarters. Also, in December 2019, Shanika was selected as one of the advisors for UNESCO in coining the Caribbean Youth Climate Change Network. As former CARICOM Youth Ambassador, Shanika is extremely passionate about the access, availability and affordability for services to young people across the various sectors not only within her country but across the region.
Her active participation in public and private services and by extension the Vincentian and regional community is grounded not only by her passion but also by a strong academic background. Ms John holds a certificate in Leadership and Management in Health from the University of Washington, Certification in Social Marketing from the Pan American Health Organization, Bachelors of Science Degree with honours in Public Health, Masters of Science in Public Health with a specialization in Health Promotion. Currently Ms. John is a Climate Change and Health Fellow with the UWI - PAHO 2021 – 2022.
