Two-week short-term course on X-ray Diffraction and Electron Microscopy

(16th-30st August, 2023)

Organized by

Department of Physics, Faculty of Science and Technology,

The University of the West Indies St. Augustine, Trinidad & Tobago

Course Description

This is an introductory course about the basics of X-ray diffraction, and electron microscopy, that will give the participants a detailed overview of the main techniques used for analysis of biological as well as material-based samples, considering these as advance tools for materials and biomedical diagnosis. Participants will get the basic idea about X-ray diffractometer, scanning electron microscope, and transmission electron microscope, their history, working, and advance applications in different field of science and technology. This course will provide a glimpse of how X-ray diffraction can be used to solve various crystallographic problems of both single and poly crystalline materials, starting from an elementary level and electron microscopes, which allow high resolution, high magnification imaging of a wide range of specimens from both biological and materials science. The course will be illustrated using real datasets and experimental techniques and will be helpful for future professionals to build their career in this field.
