Intellectual Property Law

Postgraduate Diploma Specialism Overview:

Gain in-depth knowledge about intellectual property law in the Commonwealth Caribbean and globally. This specialism in Intellectual Property Law will equip students with an in-depth understanding of intellectual property rights, including copyright, patents and trade marks. Graduates of this pathway will be able to apply the various intellectual property laws and rights with the goal of developing Caribbean jurisprudence in the area. The specialisation will train legal minds and so accelerate intellectual property awareness and development at all levels of society.

Entry Requirements:

• A UWI LLB degree, or

• A law degree from a university recognized by the UWI Board for Graduate Studies and Research

• Applicants without a law background may also be considered (subject to additional criteria or conditions)

Course of Study:

• Total Credits: 24 credit hours

• Structure: 4 courses × 6 credits each

• Requirement: The core course in Legislative Drafting and any two other courses in the list of courses for the UWI LLM.

Delivery Mode

• Blended Learning Approach: Designed to accommodate an international student body, including the Caribbean diaspora. All UWI LLM courses taught by staff on any campus are accessible to student across all UWI Campuses via eLearning
