Oil, Gas and Energy Law

Postgraduate Diploma Specialism Overview:

Hone your legal skills to help maximize the positive impact of the lucrative energy industry. Oil and gas law is one of the areas of importance to Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana. More broadly the Caribbean region is increasingly susceptible to energy issues and as such a broader look at renewable energy, sustainability and climate change will be addressed in this specialism. This programme is not currently offered by any other institution in the Caribbean and is part of the Faculty’s pioneering work to provide relevant, cutting edge law courses to meet the needs of forward-looking nations pursuing dynamic development.

Start Dates:

• September or January intake options available

Admission Requirement

✔️ A UWI LLB degree, or
✔️ A law degree from a university recognized by the UWI Board for Graduate Studies and Research
✔️ Technical diplomas from recognized tertiary level institutions OR;
✔️ Applicants without a law background may also be considered (subject to additional criteria or conditions)

Course of Study

✔️ Total Credits: 24 credit hours
✔️ Structure: 4 courses × 6 credits each 
✔️ Requirement: Completion of prescribed courses as outlined in the official programme handbook is mandatory for the award of this specialism

Delivery Mode

✔️ Blended Learning Approach: Designed to accommodate an international student body, including the Caribbean diaspora. All UWI LLM courses taught by staff on any campus are accessible to student across all UWI Campuses via eLearning
      ✔️ Face-to-face instruction
      ✔️ eLearning/distance learning technologies
