Conference on the Economy (COTE) 2008

The Department of Economics, UWI, St. Augustine will hold its second annual Conference on the Trinidad and Tobago Economy (COTE) on October 8th and 9th 2008 at the UWI School of Education Auditorium, St. Augustine COTE 2008 aims to offer possible solutions to the key economic and development issues facing Trinidad and Tobago and the wider region.

This year’s Conference theme, “Economic Planning in a Turbulent Environment – A Tribute to Dr. Trevor Farrell” is held in tribute to former Senior Lecturer Dr. Trevor Farrell, and will explore the works of Dr. Farrell to discern any insights these may have to offer to contemporary problems. Among the topics to be discussed, a high powered panel will critically examine the Trinidad and Tobago Vision 2020 process and prospects.

Sir Courtney Blackman, featured speaker will present on the topic:"The Global Financial Crisis and the Collapse of the Neo-Liberal Paradigm". Other speakers include Prof. Dennis Pantin,Prof. Karl Theodore,Prof. Norman Girvan,Dr. Auliana Poon,Dr. Gillian Marcelle,Dr. Ralph Henry and Dr. Lester Henry.

Target Audience: Public and private sector high level executives, Trade union representatives, Government representatives, Academics and Citizens concerned with T&T’s development prospects.
