From 10 p.m. on Sunday, August 6, 2023 until 6 p.m. on Monday, August 7, 2023, the myeLearning portal will be inaccessible to all staff and student users.
This downtime is necessary to facilitate the planned upgrade to the campus’s myeLearning platform.
MyeLearning is the online learning environment specifically tailored for The UWI, St. Augustine. It is our customized version of the Moodle Learning Management System, and is intended to meet our teaching and learning needs. This upgrade will enhance the teaching and learning experience for all stakeholders.
What is changing?
The myeLearning platform is being upgraded from version 3.11 to version 4.1. It is important to note that its functionality will remain the same, however there will be some minor changes. Some of these changes are listed below:
- Staff users will experience a significantly upgraded look and feel, considering new navigation options and UX improvements, including a collapsible menu to maximise their course content viewing area
- Staff users will have quicker access to courses from the My Courses tab at the top of the site
- The new Course Index will make course navigation much smoother, and allow instructors to quickly rearrange course content
- There will now be a dedicated edit mode toggle in the Navigation Bar that follows instructors as they scroll up and down the page.
- The new Blocks drawer will allow staff users to collapse course blocks, leaving more screen space for course content
- It will feature a dedicated Settings Bar at the top of each course to provide fast access to course settings, reports, grades, and participants
- Question management will be improved in the Question Bank. There will be new options to set a draft status for questions, review a comprehensive version history of changes to individual questions, and use custom Question Bank fields when working with colleagues
- Activity completion can now require a passing grade.
- Assignments can now have a time limit associated with submission
- Instructors can now notify learners when they add or update content in the course
What is not changing?
- Access to the site through using one’s Microsoft Office 365 credentials remains the same
- The current course enrolments and permissions will also remain unchanged
- Course activities and content layout will only see minor changes
How will this change impact users?
Faculty and students will have a new dashboard with some improved course management options. The upgraded site will be more mobile/touch-screen friendly.
Why is this change taking place?
As part of the One-UWI vision, all campuses are working together to have a consistent user experience across the University. The other campuses will be performing similar upgrades in time for the new academic year 2023/2024.
