UWI SPEC International Half-Marathon History : Highest Race Registration Recorded for 2019 Marathon

As registration draws to a close at 11:59pm tonight (Wednesday, October 16) for The University of the West Indies (The UWI) SPEC International Half-Marathon, race organisers have recorded the highest number of participants ever with a total of 1550 persons and counting registered as at midday today. With a target of 1600 participants for the race’s 16th anniversary, a final call is being issued to all interested members of the public to register by the deadline.

This year marks the 14th that First Citizens has been the presenting sponsor of the half-marathon which will also include a 4 x 5K relay race component. The theme of the 2019 race is ‘A sound mind in a healthy body’ and its charitable goal is supporting the the St. Augustine Academy of Sport’s (SAAS) Sport Scholarship Fund. The colour of the half-marathon will be gold.

Defending champions Didimo Armando Sanchez (age 34) of Venezuela and Raquel Agudelo Berrio (age 27) of Colombia, who clocked times of 1:08:49 and 1:20:34 respectively in last year’s race, will both take part in the 2019 edition.
