Title: French Language, Culture and Competitiveness sub-project
Description: This sub-project aimed to evaluate the added value of linguistic and cultural skills in key sectors. It sought to arrive at an economic valuation of language competencies in Trinidad and Tobago and demonstrated multiplier benefits (or costs) from (not) capitalizing on these language skills in terms of increasing trade opportunities and/or competitiveness.

Title: A Language Audit
Description: This sub-project aimed to provide baseline data about speakers of languages other than English and document the local capacity and supply in foreign languages. Due to the absence of information collected locally on the linguistic backgrounds of foreign-born residents, which is the norm in other countries, this sub-project sought to develop a more accurate picture of the linguistic richness added by the migrant population.

Title: The Implementation of a Language Management Strategy
Description: Language Management Strategies (LMS) are the measures adopted to deal with international linguistic and cultural barriers before they arise. This sub-project therefore integrated research on plurilinguals in the workplace and research on trading with a “high-context” culture like China. Case studies were used to establish best practice in the local context.
