ABOUT PRINCIPAL’S RESEARCH AWARDS 2024

A Reward for Excellence in Research

Principal’s Research Awards are presented to the outstanding researchers of the St. Augustine Campus of the University of the West Indies for their contribution during the period 2019-2024. The presentation of research awards titled “Principal’s Research Awards” was launched in 2023 conjoined with Research Festival celebrating 75 years of the university. These awards are primarily aimed to recognize the elite researchers at the campus and faculty levels besides encouraging the culture of research on campus among academics and professionals.

The researchers from the Faculties of Engineering, Food and Agriculture, Science and Technology, Medical Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities and Education, Law and Sports are invited to submit applications for Principal’s Research Awards.

This year’s Principal’s Research Awards has introduced 2 new awards titled i) Hurricane and Earthquake Alleviation Research (HEAR) Award and ii) Most Outstanding Early Career Researcher Award.

These awards will be presented at the Principal’s Research Awards Ceremony carded for 14 November 2024. All selected awardees will be invited to present their research on 15 November 2024 at the Principal’s Research Awards Conference under the theme “Research by All and Research for All” for the benefit of all researchers and external stakeholders to showcase the impact of research being undertaken at the Campus. In addition a process map for developing the Campus Research Agenda will be rolled out for the next 5 years (2025-2030) during this conference involving the faculties, public and private partners.

The following campus and faculty level awards will be open to full time Academic Staff except for the ‘Principal’s Special Innovation Award’ which is open to all full time Academic and ATSS staff.
