Principal’s Research Awards

The Principal’s Research Awards 2026 is a fourth edition that celebrates outstanding research excellence and innovation at the St. Augustine Campus of The University of the West Indies. These awards are intended to recognize and highlight the impactful research that addresses national, regional, and global challenges while fostering stronger connections between academia, policymakers, industry, and the wider community.

This year’s Principal’s Research Awards coincide with the University’s 30th Anniversary of the School for Graduate Studies and Research (SGSR), which has championed graduate education, research excellence, and innovation for over three decades. In recognition of this milestone and research contributions of the St Augustine Campus to the region and beyond, the Principal’s Research awards will be presented under the theme: “Research for a Resilient Future: Caribbean Solutions, Global Impact”.

This theme reflects The UWI’s commitment to advancing research that strengthens resilience, drives innovation, and delivers solutions to today’s challenges while shaping a sustainable future for the Caribbean and the wider world.

The Principal’s Research Awards provides a platform for researchers, students, policymakers, development partners, industry leaders, and other stakeholders to engage in meaningful dialogue on research collaboration and its role in advancing national, regional, and global development priorities.
