Welcome to the University of the West Indies Research Expo website.
As The UWI St Augustine Campus celebrates its 55th Anniversary in 2015, the Campus marks the occasion by hosting its second biennial Research Expo, sponsored by the National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Ltd.
The theme of The UWI-NGC Research Expo 2015 is “Advancing Knowledge, Impacting Lives”. The Expo will highlight the research taking place across all Faculties as well as the Research Units, Centres and Institutes at The UWI St Augustine Campus, focusing on the impact of the research being done at The UWI on the lives of people across the country, the region and even the world.
The UWI-NGC Research Expo 2015 will not only showcase the rich diversity of The UWI St. Augustine Campus’ research agenda but will aid the strengthening of linkages between academia, business, industry, government and civil society. The Expo will provide opportunities to connect university research with knowledge users, decision makers, and the general public. It is our hope that this will facilitate increased knowledge creation, mobilization and application/uptake and contribute to the improved well-being of society and the advancement of national and regional development.
The Research Expo will take place from Tuesday 22nd to Friday 25th September 2015, including the Republic Day Holiday. Expo activities will include a wide range of exhibits, mini workshops, performances, film screenings, structured tours, activities for the kids, games and demonstrations, displaying the multi-faceted talents and research projects of staff and students from varying fields and disciplines.
Opened to the public and free of charge, this will be a transformative, informational event.

Launch of The UWI St Augustine’s “Decades of Research” Updated Publication
LRC Auditorium and JFK Quadrangle,
Tuesday 22nd September, 2015: 5:30pm – 9:00pm
To mark The UWI St Augustine Campus’ 55th Anniversary Celebration, The University has updated its Decades of Research publication first published in 2010. This effort, led by Prof Patricia Mohammed, Coordinator of Graduate Studies and Research, has also produced seven commemorative films, documenting the research efforts of the seven Faculties of this Campus.
BOOK LAUNCH
This publication highlights the original research work beingundertaken by all Faculties of the St. Augustine Campus and profiles the pioneering work of those who have achieved the designation of Professor through their research. The text, which is thecollaborative work of Deputy Deans of Graduate Studies and Research and Professors themselves highlight achievements up to the beginning of 2015 and outlines the impact that UWI research is making. No other regional tertiary level institution has contributed to the development of our society through research like The UWI has, with a focus on tropical agriculture, education, engineering, the sciences, law, medical sciences, history, literature, cultural arts and social sciences. In this regard, our University continues to contribute to the growth and development of our country and region through a deeper examination of our environment and the creation of new knowledge.
FILM SCREENINGS
Eight short research films of between 6 to 12 minutes have been commissioned by the Office of the Campus Principal to showcase the impactful research projects and initiatives of The UWI Centres, Institutes and Faculties. Each research film allows the viewer to connect the researchers – the academics, research assistants, graduate students and technicians with the research communities and highlight some of the impact that this has generated. As the researchers invite us into their offices and laboratories we experience their passionate involvement in their subjects of research. This signals that research is the fundamental mechanism through which the UWI achieves change and innovation in this country, the region and globally. These films not only present the research of the UWI, St. Augustine as high quality and impacting, but also seek to motivate our partners to support the UWI in their groundbreaking traditions of advancing knowledge and impacting lives.
