Conference on Parenting and Counselling:
A Sociological Diagnostic Evaluation of Youth in the Caribbean

Youth have often been termed the future of a nation and the key to a society’s development. Thus, it is necessary to discuss the place of youth in contemporary society, the challenges faced and possible solutions. The Conference on Parenting and Counselling: A Sociological Diagnostic Evaluation of Youth in the Caribbean to be held by the Sociology Division seeks to address issues facing youth, both locally and in the region. It will provide a space within which issues, trends, challenges and solutions can be discussed and evaluated. Moreover, presenters will interrogate the changing role of institutions such as the family and school, as well as entities which focus on children and adolescents – youth groups, guidance counsellors, social workers, and parent associations, to name a few.

We invite academicians, researchers, graduate students, stakeholders, youths, NGOs and other interested parties to participate by exchanging and sharing their experiences, ideas, and research findings. At the end of the conference, papers will be shortlisted for publication.

Conference date: Thursday 27th June 2013 to Friday 28th June 2013
Time: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
Venue: Engineering Lecture Theatre 1, The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine.
