Message from the Director
Welcome to the University of the West Indies School of Pharmacy website. Our School of Pharmacy, one of the five schools of the Faculty of Medical Sciences located at the Mount Hope campus, is an exceptional place to begin a career in pharmacy. The school currently offers a four-year B.Sc. Pharmacy degree programme for full time students and a three-year accelerated degree programme for those who have a diploma or associate degree in Pharmacy. The school also offers an M.Phil programme in Pharmaceutics, which provides students with challenging and rewarding research projects, leading to opportunities in the world of academia, industry and research.
The majority of our students are from Trinidad and Tobago and the remaining are from the Bahamas, Barbados, St. Lucia, Canada, British Virgin Islands, and the Republic of Botswana. Our relatively small class sizes foster friendship and bonding of students who learn to work together.
About 200 students have graduated to date. Most of our graduates are engaged in providing pharmaceutical services in Trinidad & Tobago and in other Caribbean islands. Some have chosen to go overseas for Pharm.D. degree or for postgraduate studies in Pharmacy or Business Administration.
The School of Pharmacy is committed to preparing professional pharmacists in a learner-centered academic and professional environment, with the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes, who will serve the health care needs of society for today and for the future. We strive to provide appropriate education in the pharmaceutical sciences, biomedical sciences, clinical pharmacy and pharmacy practice. This is accomplished through the delivery of a recently revised and innovative curriculum by a team of dedicated faculty and professional staff who promote independent and group learning, problem solving and continuous self-assessment. Our supportive staff are committed to providing the best support possible to students. This is further complemented by the enthusiastic and caring student organizations on campus, especially the pharmacy student’s organization of Trinidad & Tobago who organize a range of professional and social activities for students.
We invite you to explore our programmes and encourage you to visit our school or email us anytime with any questions you may have.
