Information Technology Unit
The Information Technology Unit (ITU), or IT
Unit in short, was formerly called the Information
Services Unit (ISU) and prior to that, the Electronic
Embassy. It is a postgraduate/research computer facility
containing approximately fourteen student computers that
are connected via a Campus Students network. Students
have access to the Internet, e-mail, word-processing, and
printing facilities.
The IT Unit is made up of the IT Officer and a
Technical Assistant who together handle the daily
operation of this facility and maintain all of the
Institute's information technology infrastructure in
collaboration with Faculty of Social Sciences and the
Campus IT Services (CITS).
The Terms of Reference of the IT Unit are as
follows:
- To provide first line of IT service and support to
ensure effective use of IT in teaching, learning,
research and administration within the Institute.
- To work synergistically with Campus IT Services,
the Instructional Development Unit, and peer IT Units
to meet the diverse needs of staff and students within
the Institute.
- To ensure quality service, support and
deliverables that are consistent with best practices
within and external to, the UWI.
