How To Apply

Please read the information below before proceeding to complete and submit your online application.

To apply online, you will first need to know the Campus, Faculty and Programme to which you wish to apply. Click here for more details.

To apply to The University of the West Indies you are required to complete your online application

All applications must be accompanied by the documents listed below to allow for the completion of the application process. Please note that the original supporting documents must be accompanied by certified or notarized copies. Applications will be acknowledged as soon as you complete and submit your on line application. You will be notified of the result of your application by July 31 of the year in which entry is being sought. For persons seeking entry in Semester II notification of the outcome of your application will be by December 31 of the year preceding entry.


DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FROM ALL APPLICANTS

UWI graduates:

  1. Marriage Certificate (where applicable)
  2. Legal Affidavit or Deed Poll if your present name is different from that on the Birth Certificate
  3. Professional Certificates/Diplomas obtained from Institutions other than UWI
  4. Two (2) referees’ reports
  5. Research Proposal (M.Phil., Ph.D. and M.D. applicants only)
  6. Curriculum vitae (Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business applicants only)
  7. Confirmation of Employment (applicants to Engineering programmes)
  8. Copy of Confirmation Receipt

Non-UWI graduates:

  1. Birth Certificate.
  2. Marriage Certificate (where applicable).
  3. Legal Affidavit or Deed Poll if your present name is different from that on the Birth Certificate
  4. Professional Certificates/Diplomas.
  5. Official transcripts (sent directly from granting institution)
  6. TOEFL Score of 500 or greater (if English is not your first Language)
  7. Two (2) referees’ reports
  8. Research Proposal (M.Phil., Ph.D. and M.D. applicants only)
  9. Curriculum vitae (Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business applicants only)
  10. Confirmation of Employment (applicants to Engineering programmes)
  11. Copy of Confirmation Receipt

APPLICATION FEES

Persons applying online are exempt from paying an application fee.

DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS

Except where otherwise stated in advertisements, persons seeking admission to programmes leading to graduate diplomas and taught Master’s degrees must submit their applications to the appropriate Campus Registry not later than January 31 of the calendar year in which they wish to enter the University.

Persons seeking admission to MPhil and PhD programmes who wish to begin study in Semester I of the academic year must submit their applications to the appropriate Campus Registry not later than January 31 of the calendar year in which they are seeking entry. Candidates wishing to enter in Semester II should submit their applications by October 31 of the preceding calendar year.

Closing date for receipt of applications for Diploma in Education is December 1, 2009. FOR ALL OTHER PROGRAMMES THE CLOSING DATE IS FEBRUARY 28TH, 2010. The site will be blocked after the deadline date has passed.


RE-ADMISSION/RE-ENTRY PROCEDURE

Students who were enrolled at The University of the West Indies and were required to withdraw; voluntarily withdrew or who have completed an academic programme, must submit an application for re-admission by the deadlines stated.

Persons applying for re-admission to degree programmes should submit documentary evidence of ADDITIONAL qualifications (if applicable).

APPLYING ONLINE

Please read the following instructions carefully before proceeding to complete the online application.

NOTES

  1. Submit ONLY ONE application to your campus of choice.

STEP 1: GO TO THE ONLINE ADMISSIONS WEBPAGE

You can begin the application process by visiting the Online Admissions Website. This link will be provided in Step 5.


STEP 2: SET UP YOUR ACCOUNT

Create a Login ID and PIN (Personal Identification Number) to set up an account (any login ID can be created e.g. John and the pin must be six (6) digits). Make a note of your Login ID and PIN since you will need these to access your application information after you log out of the system.

STEP 3: COMPLETE YOUR APPLICATION ON-LINE

Follow the instructions and complete the application in full before submitting it. You will need to know whether the programme you are applying for will be offered Evening, Part-time, Full-Time or both as access to the programmes on the on-line application is determined by this distinction.

You do not have to complete your application in one sitting. You can start the process and complete it any time before the deadline using your Login ID and PIN.

To access an application that you may have started already but were unable to complete, login to the system using the Login ID and PIN that you created in STEP 2 above. Then click the application and resume the application process by selecting the appropriate item on the Application Checklist.


STEP 4: SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION

Once you have filled all the required information on the form and you are satisfied, you may submit your application by clicking the APPLICATION IS COMPLETE button.


STEP 5: PRINT AND MAIL IN SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS

Print the Confirmation Receipt.  There is no need to sign it.  There is an Application Confirmation Receipt Number, which is assigned to the Confirmation Receipt when you click the application is complete button. Submit the Confirmation Receipt along with the other supporting documents [Refer to section on DOCUMENTS REQUIRED for details] to:

Please note that your application will not be processed until we receive the confirmation receipt and all supporting documents from you.  Receiving your confirmation receipt is an indication that you wish us to process this particular application.

You MUST send the documents indicated above immediately upon completion of your application. They should arrive at the University, with the Confirmation Receipt, to allow early processing and notification.  Please note, however, that all documents must be in by the deadline date.
