Strengths
The
University of the West Indies in its Strategic
Plan 2002-2007 has identified eight Research
Pillars as follows:

The St. Augustine Campus has identified a

On
this campus we have also identified a number
of niche areas in which we either have strengths
or can build strengths and the Campus has mandated
its Departments or Faculties to make a serious
attempt to build up research niches involving
Faculty and postgraduate students and organize
clusters or teams which will also be given the
opportunity to strengthen such initiatives with
Post Doctoral Researchers. TT$500,000.00 has
been allocated to each of the following seven
areas for postgraduate student scholarships,
funding of Post Doctorals and counterpart funding
on monies raised from other sources outside
the University system by Researchers. Based
on success indicators, this initial amount will
be increased to ensure sustainable success.

in the field of Agriculture
6. Cultural Studies – Multidisciplinary
approaches; multicultural focus; culture and
entrepreneurship; culture and development;
Rethinking Cultural Theory; Aspects of Caribbean
Culture
7. Education with emphasis on Teacher Education
– teaching and learning issues and challenges;
learning environments; improving primary and
secondary education quality; curriculum design
and development; socio-economic challenges
in educational development; holistic education
for Caribbean reality in an interconnected
world.
