Applications are invited for the award of the following Postgraduate Scholarships for the 2012-13 academic year. Scholarships are tenable only at the St. Augustine campus of The University of the West Indies and are normally awarded for a maximum period of TWO (2) YEARS. Ph.D. candidates may be awarded an additional year subject to satisfactory progress of their research. The scholarships mentioned below are offered only to FULL-TIME persons pursuing Higher Degrees by Research (M.Phil./Ph.D.) at the St. Augustine Campus:
UWI Postgraduate Scholarships
available to national, regional and international students
- Applicants from all Faculties pursuing M.Phil. or Ph.D. degrees within the St. Augustine campus can apply for this scholarship.
- The value of the scholarship is TT$60,000.00 per annum
Eric Williams Memorial Scholarship
available to Caricom Nationals only
- Applicants must be :
- CARICOM nationals with University degrees with their first degree in History, Economics or Political Science.
- pursuing research in either Caribbean History, Caribbean Economic Development or Caribbean Politics.
- The value of the scholarship is TT$60,000.00 per annum
Elsa Goveia Scholarships
- Applicants must be graduates of The University of the West Indies, University of Guyana or another Caribbean University.
- Two (2) scholarships to be awarded as follows to applicants pursuing research in:
- Caribbean History
- the areas of Sociology, Anthropology, Cultural Studies and Gender Studies.
- The value of the scholarship is TT$60,000.00 per annum
Selection Criteria for the Scholarships
- Applicants who possess a First or Upper Second Class Honours or its equivalent in their first degree
- Applicants who have received both a Lower Second Class Honours degree or its equivalent and a Taught Masters (i.e. M.Sc./M.A./M.Ed./M.ASc./MFA etc.) or M.Phil. degree.
- A thoroughly completed supervisor’s progress report form outlining the progress of the student’s research and expected completion/submission date of the student’s thesis. (for current students only)

- Official Transcripts are required from applicants who are not graduates of this university. (This is separate and apart from what was submitted for the M.Phil./Ph.D. degree application.)

- Research proposal should be approximately 2 pages in length (see guideline)

- Scholarship application forms must be signed by the Head of Department before submission to the Office of Graduate Studies & Research
