UWI Postgraduate Scholarships
Scholarships are tenable only at the St. Augustine campus of The University of the West Indies and are normally awarded for a maximum period of TWO (2) YEARS. PhD candidates may be awarded an additional year subject to satisfactory progress.
The current annual value of the award is: ST. AUGUSTINE CAMPUS - TT$60,000.00
These scholarships are offered only to full-time persons pursuing Higher Degrees by Research
(M.Phil./Ph.D.) at the St. Augustine Campus.
Eric Williams Memorial Scholarship
Applicants must be CARICOM nationals with University degrees (at least Upper Second Class or its equivalent) in history, economics or political science. The successful candidate will be required to pursue full-time studies for the M.Phil. or Ph.D. degree at The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, researching a topic in Caribbean History, Caribbean Economic Development or Caribbean Politics.
The Scholarship will be for two (2) years for the (M.Phil.) or three (3) years for the (Ph.D.) and subject to satisfactory academic progress. The annual value of the scholarship is $60,000 per annum.
Elsa Goveia Scholarships
- Applicants must be graduates of The University of the West Indies, University of Guyana or another Caribbean University.
- Two (2) scholarships to be awarded as follows:
- To persons currently registered full-time for the M.Phil. or Ph.D. degree in Caribbean History or who have applied for full-time admission to such a programme for the academic year 2008/09.
- For studies leading to the M.Phil./Ph.D. degree in the areas of Sociology, Anthropology, Cultural Studies and Gender Studies.
- Scholarships will be tenable at The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine for two (2) years with the possibility of an extension to a third year for Ph.D. candidates only.
- (v) The value of the scholarship is TT$60,000.00 per annum
Yara Graduate Scholarships
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the YARA Trinidad Limited Scholarship to be awarded at either the M.Phil or Ph.D. levels in Soil Science in the Department of Food Production.
The award is worth US$10,000.00 per annum for two years and will be offered from September 2008.
The successful candidate will have as his/her research focus “Evaluation and application of modern diagnostic techniques in plant nutrition and fertilizer management in important food crops of Trinidad and Tobago”.
Candidates must hold a B.Sc. in Agriculture or related disciplines from a reputable university and also satisfy standard requirements for entry into graduate research programmes of The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine.

However Candidates who have applied for entry to their degree for this academic year (2008/09) ARE NOT required to submit additional referees’ forms with their application. De La Rue Scholarship
The scholarship is tenable at the St. Augustine Campus of The University of the West Indies for a maximum period of two (2) academic years.
The award will primarily cover the cost of books, materials and tuition with the balance being devoted to subsistence.
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:-
- Be a national of Trinidad and Tobago
- Be pursuing full-time postgraduate study in the field of Economics (M.Sc./M.Phil/Ph.D.)
(Preference shall be granted to applicants who are pursuing economics with specializations in monetary economics, financial economics, finance, public finances, international trade, regional integration, energy economics or development economics.)
- Have maintained an outstanding academic record (with at least B+ average in coursework)
- Be required to participate in an internship programme for a minimum period of two months at the Central Bank.
Applicants are advised to note that the selection process will include the following:
- A selection interview conducted by a panel;
- The completion of a 3-5 page essay on their suitability for the award of the scholarship;
- An assessment of the applicants’ need for financial assistance.
Priority will be given to those applicants who demonstrate critical financial need.
