Congratulations to the Winners of the Delegate Choice Award at NHRC 2025!

We are proud to announce that our multidisciplinary research team from The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus has won the Delegate Choice Award for Best Poster at the 6th National Health Research Conference (NHRC) 2025. The conference was held on Tuesday 25th November 2025 at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad, which brought together national partners under the theme “Climate Change: Impacts on Public Health.”

Selected from 68 posters, this award recognizes the project “Preparing Tomorrow’s Doctors for Climate Change: Insights from Medical Student Perceptions” led by Satesh Sookhai, PhD Candidate (Department of Management Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences), who brought together a talented team representing five faculties and multiple departments: 

  • Areeb Mohammed - Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Faculty of Science and Technology
  • Widmark Ramgoolie - Department of Medicine and Surgery, Faculty of Medical Sciences

  • Gail Narinesingh - Health Services Unit

  • Shaina Sookhai - Department of Management Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences

  • Celine Suchit - Department of Food Production, Faculty of Food and Agriculture

  • Melissa Steele - Department of Physics, Faculty of Science and Technology

The project was supervised by Dr. Paul Balwant, Dr. Riann Singh, and Dr. Nastasha Ramkissoon-Bawah, the project explored the perceptions, awareness, and climate-related concerns of 113 medical students.
