Description:

Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Biosystems is concerned with the solution of engineering problems affecting agriculture in the production of food and feed for our present and future needs and involves the design, development and maintenance of farm machinery for tillage, planting, cultivation, harvesting and handling of crops; drainage; irrigation, erosion control and land and water management; and the storage and processing of food and feed with the adaptation and development of new technology and energy sources.

Agricultural Engineers utilise basic engineering fundamentals and a knowledge of agriculture in their solutions to the problems of agricultural production and processes.

CSEC Minimum passes: 5

CSEC Mandatory: English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry

CAPE Minimum passes: 2

CAPE Mandatory: Pure Mathematics, Physics

Alternative Qualifications:

  • A minimum GPA of 2.5 obtained in PreENG,

  • OR
    Any of the following Diplomas, based on merit using the scores calculated in Table 3.1:

    • NEC Mechanical Engineering Technician Diploma – Score of 65% and above;
    • COSTAATT Associate Degree (GPA of 3.5 and above);
    • TTIT/UTT Technician Diploma (GPA of 3.0 and above);
    • BCC Ordinary Mechanical Technician Diploma (GPA of 3.5 and above).
  • OR
    Any other qualification that is considered by the Department, in addition to those listed in Regulation 3.1 (See Table 3.1 in the latest Undergraduate Handbook for the Faculty of Engineering: https://sta.uwi.edu/faculty-booklet-archive).
