Dr. Eric St Cyr

Dr. Eric St. Cyr has a history of dedication and commitment to Trinidad and Tobago. It is this history of service that has culminated in his current position as the Chairman of the Integrity Commission.

Dr. St. Cyr was born in Grenada in June of 1933. Upon completion of his secondary school career he went on to become a Graduate of the University of Manchester. It was there he earned his Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts and Ph.D. all in the field of Economics. In the summer of 1969 he did his I.T.P. (International Teachers Program) at the Havard Business School. Six years later he acquired the M.T.C. from the University of Western Ontario. In 1989 he earned a Diploma in Advanced Christian Ministry from the Faith Revival Ministries Advanced Christian Ministry Training School.

His contributions to the world of Economics are broad and far reaching in scope. He has contributed twenty- four (24) academic publications to the field of economics. These include; “Some Fundamentals in the Theory of Caribbean Economy,” which was part of the former Head of Department Prof. Dennis Pantin’s “ The Caribbean Economy” and “ Economic Policy and Management Choices- A Contemporary History of Trinidad and Tobago”, which was co-authored with Lloyd Best. Dr. St. Cyr also has published a further thirty- four (34) research articles.

His work experience spans both the academic and public spheres. These range from serving as the Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences and the Head of the Department of Economics at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine to the Member of the Board of Directors, Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago, in addition to many Cabinet Appointed Committees of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago. His contributions to Economics also extend regionally when in 1991 he acted as a team member advising the Government of Grenada on Public Finances. His experience as a consultant has seen him become a part of a large number of projects with tremendous macroeconomic implications in the Caribbean.

Dr. St. Cyr has undoubtedly contributed significantly to the economic framework of Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean region. His ideas have set him aside as a truly brilliant economic mind.
