The Extractive Sector plays an important role in the global economic landscape, by contributing significantly to the GDP if their host countries. Thus Extractive Industries can indeed contribute to the sustainable development of a community and to the wider economy when interventions are implemented that considers the rights of the people most affected.

 

It is in this context that the TEDU is hosting a conference entitled “Achieving sustainability in regions with Extractive Industries” and as part of the community outreach it will also be hosting a secondary school’s 3-D poster competition. This competition seeks to highlight and encourage sustainable development in communities that house extractive industries.

 

REGISTRATION

Register in advance with Ms. Cindy James (extractive@sta.uwi.edu), by emailing the following information. 

i. Student Team: Name of the team, Team member names and contact information                             emails addresses and phone numbers, with one team member 

                            designated at team captain

ii. School Affiliation: Name of School, Mailing Address and Phone Number

iii. Title of Poster:  Title, with a descriptive paragraph that details the content of

                                the poster

iv. Supervisor:       Teacher/ Administrator’s name and contact information – email

                              address and phone number

Poster pre-registrations must be submitted no later than Saturday, March 30th, 2013

 

Each registered team is required to participate in a 3D poster making workshop on 20th April 2013 8:30am Pt Fortin West Secondary School

 

RULES

  • Posters must include the statement “Sustainability – The Way Forward” and illustrate the idea how communities can change the world for the better.
  • Each poster must be the work of a team, which can comprise of any number of students from the same school.
  • The poster concept and design and any photos or artwork used must be the original work of the team entering.
  • Posters must be 15 x 20 inches in size, including border or mat, if used.
  • The poster must include at least three (3) 3-dimensional components.
  • The following information must be included on the back of the poster: Team Name and Institution, Mailing address, e-mail address and phone number.
  • Please do not include glass, tacks, staples or any other breakable or sharp objects with your entry.

JUDGING

  • All teams are to present their posters for judging on the 1st June 2012 at 9:00am at Pt Fortin West Secondary School
  • Posters will be judged on overall impact, effectiveness in conveying the theme, originality and artistic merit. Judging will be based on a comparison of comments from at least three judges.
  • The selection of the winning presentations will be based on:
  • The clarity of your poster
  • The completeness of your work
  • The use of materials tied to the extractive industries
  • Innovative design
  • The decisions of the Judges are final.
  • All entries become the property of TEDU, and can be used in promotional signage and advertising.

Entries will not be returned to teams/It is the responsibility of teams to collect posters after a decision has been made by the judges.
