International Relations of the Caribbean (INRL 5004) analyses the modern Caribbean as a region in the contemporary globalized world and the changing hemispheric dynamics. The course examines Caribbean region key issues in the multilateral system with emphasis in events dating from the end of the 20th century. The course discusses the changing nature of the international and regional scenarios and how the Caribbean states keep on their search for identity, development and regional integration in the global system, these three aspects being seen as the core of their foreign policy and external engagements. Major emphasis is devoted to analyzing Caribbean relationships with global and regional leading actors, as well as the realities of larger states of the Caribbean as Cuba, Dominican Republic.
