Dear Students,

My colleagues and I warmly welcome you to the Faculty of Social Sciences. You are now part of an established community where we focus on lifelong learning for sustainable impact. We are delighted that you have chosen us to partner with you on this journey to achieving your educational goals.

In order to equip you for the journey ahead, we have developed a suite of programmes which are offered across the four (4) Departments of the Faculty – the Department of Behavioural Sciences, the Department of Economics, the Department of Management Studies and the Department of Political Sciences. You have the option to customize your degree based on the various course offerings that span the diverse disciplines across the Faculty. We encourage you to take full advantage of this opportunity so as to gain a holistic understanding of the Social Sciences.

  • The Colette Delaney Scholarship for Students in Business Studies

    The Colette Delaney Scholarship for Students in Business Studies established to allow promising, economically challenged young people across the Caribbean region to realise their dreams of pursuing studies in the field of Business at The University of the West Indies (UWI) campus of their choice.

    Please note that the 2023-24 three-year scholarships will be awarded to females only, and to males only in the ensuing year.

    See link below for scholarship eligibility, criteria and the application form. The scholarships will be administered by the Scholarship Committee at the Cave Hill Campus.

    Deadline for submissions: June 15, 2023.

  • Launch of the Residential Care Workers Training Program

    On May 8, the Department of Behavioural Sciences, UWI in collaboration with the Children's Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (CATT) and the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) launched the Residential Care Workers Training Program. This was designed to train residential care workers across the country with a differentiated curriculum for directors/supervisors and other care workers within the system. The training cuts across many areas of policy, child development, trauma and abuse, practices of child protection and safeguarding,  neurodevelopmental and Impulse Control Disorders, Case management, Communication, conflict management and the ethics of childcare, among others. The training offers a multidisciplinary engagement of complex issues affecting the practices of workers in this sector. Expectations are for the enhancement of their knowledge, competencies, and responses within the duty of care. This training will run from May 10-mid August and culminate with the graduation of successful participants. 

  • UWI-NEDCO Innovation & Entrepreneurship Boot Camp

    The UWI-NEDCO Innovation & Entrepreneurship Boot Camp targets registered UWI Students (undergraduate/ postgraduate) and is meant to assist these budding entrepreneurs in improving the products of services offered.

    We aim to select 6 top applicants from the programme to present their pitch deck to a panel of qualified judges for a chance to win $15,000 in capital injection, $5000.00 in prizes and admission into the NEDCO Business Accelerator Programme.

    Deadline for applications 31st May 2023.
