I trust that this email finds you safe and in good health under the current circumstances. The last few weeks have been difficult for us all as we are operating in a very fluid environment where change seems to be the constant. At the national level, we are adjusting to a new way of indoor living. At the University level, we have transitioned to working remotely and to participating in virtual/online classrooms. These rapid changes have no doubt impacted us in diverse ways as we seek to establish some form of a ‘new normal’. In the midst of it all, I encourage you to not allow fear to take control of your heart.
I know that when you enrolled in your various programmes you did not anticipate that you will be engaging in online learning. Your Lecturers did not anticipate that they would have to quickly learn how to navigate the online environment in less than one week. The administrative support staff had to quickly learn new ways of supporting us all remotely. I know that there is much anxiety in terms of assignments, exams, resources etc.
I want to reassure you that we understand the current circumstances and the University is working assiduously to ensure that suitable arrangements are put in place and that no student is disadvantaged at this time. We will continue to keep you abreast of developments in a timely manner.
These are unprecedented times and now more than ever you have to support each other to navigate this new environment. I encourage you to check in with your colleagues and to ensure that no one is in need.
Please do not ‘suffer in silence’. Should you need any assistance or guidance or if you have any suggestions, please do not hesitate to reach out to your Head of Department or the Dean. We are here to support you.
