Mrs. B Pereira

Beverley Pereira, a Jamaican, is an Attorney–at-Law, holding office as University Counsel and Head of the Legal Unit in the Office of the Vice Chancellor, University of the West Indies, Mona Campus.

 

She studied law in the United Kingdom and was called to the Bar at Gray’s Inn, London. She holds the Bachelor of Arts (Special Honours) Degree in English from the University of the West Indies and the Bachelor of Laws (Honours) Degree from the University of London, and has specialized training in the areas of public administration, legislative drafting and intellectual property. 

 

In Jamaica Mrs. Pereira’s participation in public life includes membership of the Entertainment Advisory Board, and the Copyright Tribunal which she served as Chairman for two terms.  She was the lead negotiator for CARICOM States in the area of intellectual property rights in the negotiations for a Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA).Agreement 

 

Mrs. Pereira has been a legal consultant on several national and regional projects and has authored several papers.  In recent years she has been active in course development and delivery at the post graduate level in the field of intellectual property rights.  She spearheaded a course in copyright for information specialists in the region as well as the Intellectual Property Rights Module in the Masters in International Trade Policy Programme offered at the Cave Hill Campus.  She also teaches intellectual property law on the WTO/UWI Trade Policy course for Government Officials in CARICOM States offered at the Mona Campus.  Mrs. Pereira is on the panel of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Arbitration and Mediation Center which determines domain name disputes.
