The Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Laboratory houses all various CNC equipment and tools of the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. The CNC laboratory aims to enhance the student’s knowledge in development of practical CAD models and provides exposure to the latest hardware and software which will prove indispensable in industry. The CNC laboratory offers an academic experience necessary for the development of a mechanical engineer pursuing further studies and a career in Manufacturing area.

The CNC laboratory is headed by Prof. B.V. Chowdary.


Scope of the CNC Lab


For BSc. in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in Manufacturing, the laboratory focuses on providing instructions in the subject areas of:

  • MENG3013 Product Design and Development.
    Course Description: Synthesis of materials, design and processes into final products/ components. Emphasis will be placed on the following:- sheet metal products, case or moulded metal products, plastics, composites, machined products. Special machining processes. Generation of forms, tooling design, use of jigs and fixtures. Assembly processes, costing.   
  • MENG3014 Computer Aided Design and Manufacture.
    Course Description: Review of the role and elements of computer-aided design. Development of integrated databases for design and manufacture. Solid and surface modelling techniques for design and manufacture. Generation of tool path data from solid and surface models. Numerical Control technology:- manual part programming, computer-assisted part programming, CAI applications for tool path generation.
