A) LEARNING EVENTS


1. Paediatric First Aid, CPR & Strategies for reacting in emergency situations.
This Learning Event was facilitated by the Trinidad and Tobago Red Cross Society (TTRCS), on April 2nd 2016. Participants learned first aid techniques, CPR for both adults and children, safety procedures and tips, and action plans in emergency situations. At the end of the session, participants were certified by the TTRCS as certified trainees in CPR and First Aid.

2. Learning Event: Discipline techniques for dealing with troubled behaviour in children - This Learning Event was hosted by ParentingTT and was tailored to parents, guardians, teachers and child care practitioners. This event was repeated 3 times; May 7th, June 25th and July 23rd 2016. The workshop provided current, relevant discipline techniques for the classroom to negate corporal punishment, how to treat with indiscipline and understand the source of indiscipline. It additionally provided parents with tools to counteract indiscipline, detect issues in students – child abuse, sexual abuse etc., for teachers. Protocol/legal procedures involved once an issue of abuse of child/children has been identified was also covered.

3.  First Aid, CPR and AED certification – This Learning Event was faciliated by Mr. Neel Jagdeo on May 14th 2016. Participants learned First Aid techniques, CPR for both adults and children, safety procedures and tips, and AED training. At the end of the session, participants were certified by the TTRCS as certified trainees in CPR, AED and First Aid.

4. Partners in Care: Building bridges between families and Early Childhood professionals – This Learning Event was facilitated by Dr. Lesleann Whiteman on June 4th 2016. This event encouraged families to engage with practices that works with ECCE programmes, examined the pedagogy for working with families/parents, and explored the practical rules of engagements to promote genuine family/parents-teacher relationships.
