Dr. Géraldine Bengsch is interested in how language is used in traditional and digital communication contexts. She is interested in new technologies, including machine learning algorithms, and their applications to push social science studies and research methods further. Currently, she is working on transformer-based models and their understanding of the pragmatics of natural communication.

She has worked as both researcher and lecturer at various universities across the UK, including the University of York, University College London, Leeds Trinity University, City University of London, University of Wales Trinity Saint David and King’s College London.

She has supervised students from Bachelor to doctoral level in Communication, Education and interdisciplinary projects in culture, heritage, and technology, such as VR/AR.

In addition to higher education, she has also been trained as a full stack software engineer and enjoys building custom solutions for her teaching and research, as well as teaching others about technology. She has been a volunteer section leader at Stanford University’s “Code in Place” introduction to programming course. She also participates in data meetings and hackathons to keep her skills relevant.
