I believe students are explorers on their journey to discovering the many educational treasures hidden and I am the tour guide whose responsibility lies in keeping them on the right path.
My voyage began at the secondary school level as a form 4 and 5 Teaching Assistant. After 5 years of lecturing and 10 years tutoring at both UWI Mona (CARIMAC) and St Augustine campuses my student centered teaching philosophy was developed. I've adopted an approach to teaching that considers the learning aptitudes of pupils. This approach has helped me to build model students, motivate and inspire them to be lifelong learners, help them to communicate effectively and critically analyse and use their environment as an instrument of learning.
My teaching interests have always mainly been communication based. I have lectured and tutored multiple courses such as Communication Research Methods, Health Communication and Human Communication just to name a few.
Outside of my classes I still found time to work as a Research Assistant at the Faculty of Medical Sciences (Cave Hill campus). One of the major tasks I accomplished in this position was the execution of qualitative analyses of the success of policy development regarding Caribbean Wellness Day throughout CARICOM member states. The work was quite extensive and rewarding as it exposed me to interviews, focus groups and content analysis.
This experience was an eye opener which only fueled my passion for Health Communication and reaffirmed my enthusiasm to pursue a Public Health PhD which I am in the process of completing.
