Roxanne A. Charles qualified from the UWI-SVM, Trinidad in 2007 with a DVM (Hons) degree. Here she worked as a teaching assistant from 2007-2009 in the Avian/Exotics section under the mentorship of Dr. Gabriel Brown. In 2009 she was the recipient of a Fulbright Faculty Development Scholarship (LASPAU) which enabled her to pursue a Master of Science in Veterinary Parasitology at the University of Georgia, Athens, USA. She returned to her Alma mater to lecture in Veterinary Parasitology I (VETM 2011) and II (VETM 3001), Veterinary Pathology and Diagnostic Laboratory Medicine (VETM 5010) and delivers the introduction to Parasitology component (MDSC 1406) to all students of the first year of the Faculty of Medical Sciences. She also tutors PBL at both the SVM and Faculty level. Her interests in Parasitology range from ectoparasites of veterinary and public health importance in domestic and wildlife species to gastrointestinal helminths and protozoan parasites in these animals. At present she is involved in projects concerning ticks and tick-borne diseases in the Caribbean.

Professional Experience
- Lectured in Veterinary Parasitology
- Course co-ordinator and first examiner of VETM 2011 and 3001
- Served as chair on the Timetabling subcommittee for three years and currently the chair of the UWI-SVM Admissions committee (2015 to present)
- Supervisor of the Parasitology Unit at the UWI-SVM
- Supervisor of >20 SVM undergraduate student research projects
- Collaborator with French-based CIRAD/ANSES on ticks and tick-borne diseases (DOMOTICK) project.
- Facilitator/trainer of two Parasitology workshops hosted by the UWI-SVM.
- Co-chair of Vector and Vector-Borne Diseases Working Group (CaribVet)
Honours and Awards
- Fulbright Scholarship from the Latin American Scholarship Program of American Universities (LASPAU) Faculty Development Program, to pursue a Master of Science in Veterinary Parasitology at the University of Georgia (UGA) in the United States of America
- Awarded a partial competitive bursary to attend the Residency Course on parasites, arthropod vectors, and transmitted pathogens in the Mediterranean area, Bari, Italy. Hosted by the University of Bari, Italy and the European Veterinary Parasitology Coll
- Recipient of a full competitive bursary by the Wellcome Group- Wellcome Genome Campus Advanced Courses (WGCAC), working with Parasite Database Resources (Montevideo, Uruguay) (October 16-21, 2016)
