On May 8, the Department of Behavioural Sciences, UWI in collaboration with the Children’s Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (CATT) and the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) launched the Residential Care Workers Training Program. This was designed to train residential care workers across the country with a differentiated curriculum for directors/supervisors and other care workers within the system. The training cuts across many areas of policy, child development, trauma and abuse, practices of child protection and safeguarding, neurodevelopmental and Impulse Control Disorders, Case management, Communication, conflict management and the ethics of childcare, among others. The training offers a multidisciplinary engagement of complex issues affecting the practices of workers in this sector. Expectations are for the enhancement of their knowledge, competencies, and responses within the duty of care. This training will run from May 10-mid August and culminate with the graduation of successful participants.
