Course Description

This course provides students to the history of economic thought highlighting some of the key economic issues, which have preoccupied the discipline from its origins. The course also provides an introduction to the basic principles of micro-economic analysis together with the main perspectives on the functioning of the macro-economy. The micro-economic analysis is illustrated by reference to a key export sector in the Caribbean (e.g. oil or bananas). The implications of trends in the latter for the Balance of Payments and macro economy conclude this first semester course.
