GRADE 4 MECHANIC I (DAILY PAID)

Applications are invited for the post of Mechanic I (Grade 4) (Daily Paid) in the Division of Facilities Management.
Duties of the post include:
1. Performing preventative maintenance to the vehicles belonging to the Division of Facilities Management such as submersible and suction lift sewer pumps, hoists and chain blocks, vacuum blowers, mechanical stirrers, electromechanical woodworking equipment, air compressors, lawnmowers, weed whackers and water pumps.
2. Driving and repairing the vehicles belonging to the Division of Facilities Management such as submersible and suction lift sewer pumps, hoists and chain blocks, vacuum blowers, mechanical stirrers, electromechanical woodworking equipment, air compressors, lawnmowers, weed whackers and water pumps.
3. Inspecting backup generators, elevators, valves, gauges, hoses and pumps and setting up temporary portable generators and diesel water pumps.
4. Assisting in campus emergencies and with safety regulations on job sites.
5. Assisting with the Government inspections of the Division’s vehicles and the transferring of the University’s vehicles.
6. Performing any other duties as may be assigned by the Mechanical Foreman, the Facilities Manager, Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance, or the Director, Division of Facilities Management.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Applicants must have knowledge of performance characteristics, inspections and maintenance procedures necessary for the repair, maintenance and adjustment of vehicle suspensions, internal combustion four-stroke engines, small two-stroke engines, hoists, compressors, pumps and other related equipment. Candidates should have knowledge and skill in the use of hand and electrical tools such as grinders, drill presses, socket sets, winches and torque handles. Applicants should possess the ability to use electrical reading and testing equipment, hoisting and rigging equipment, chain blocks, etc. Applicants must be willing to work flexible hours including weekends/ public holidays when required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential:
Applicants must possess minimum qualifications of at least three (3) GCE ‘O’ Levels or CXC/CSEC (Grades I, II or III from 1998) passes including English Language or should be enrolled in or successfully completed The UWI Ancillary Staff Training Programme. Applicants must possess an approved Technician Diploma in the related field or equivalent qualifications from a registered/ accredited institution.
EXPERIENCE
Essential:
At least three (3) years’ of work experience in the automotive services or maintenance industry.

Salary will be fixed in accordance with Grade 4 of the (Daily-Paid) salary scale ($298.00 per day).
