Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must possess either of the following from a recognized university:  

  • Doctor of Medicine (DM) in Internal Medicine

            OR  

  • Equivalent postgraduate qualification

 

Candidates should also possess:  

  • At least four (4) years postgraduate experience (after graduation) from MBBS or equivalent
  • Evidence of prior success in clinical decision making and communication skills
  • Ability to provide guidance and clinical supervision of postgraduate students

 

Candidates with the following would have an advantage: 

  • Proficiency in clinical audit and research skills
  • Ability to support university assessment and examinations activities

 

The following would be considered assets: 

  • Degree or Certificate in Medical Education
  • At least two (2) years postgraduate teaching experience
  • Successful award of grant as a Principal Investigator (PI) or member of a team
  • Good record of research and publications in reputable, peer reviewed journals
  • At least two (2) years clinical experience at consultant level
  • Subspecialty training in Internal Medicine
  • Experience in providing Subspecialty service in Cardiology, Pulmonology, Endocrinology, Medical Oncology or Palliative Care

 

Candidates must be registered or be able to register as a specialist in Internal Medicine with the Medical Board of Trinidad and Tobago (MBTT). 

 

Special Responsibilities 
  • Providing work-based clinical supervision and teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • Supervising postgraduate research projects
  • Teaching of Internal Medicine for the MBBS degree and the DM Internal Medicine programmes via online and face to face modes
  • Managing a Clinical Service
  • Mentoring students

 

Personal Attributes

The Campus places high priority on individuals of integrity who can work well in a team and student friendly environment. Candidates should also possess good communication and interpersonal skills. A good command of both oral and written English is essential. Candidates should also: 

  • Uphold the highest standards of professional practice and behaviour and medical ethics
  • Have strong interest in mentoring staff
  • Be able to use online pedagogical platforms such as Zoom
  • Be able to use teaching aids such as PowerPoint presentations
