Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must:  

  • possess at least a Master’s degree from a recognized university, which should be in Information Technology, Computer Science, Instructional Design or a closely-related field, with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education in the Teaching of Information Technology (IT) or Computer Science;

         AND 

  • Currently pursuing a PhD and must have completed two (2) seminars or equivalent towards completion of a PhD

Candidates should also possess: 

  • Five (5) years’ teaching experience in Information Technology (IT) or Computer Science in a higher education environment
  • Good record of research and publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals
  • Proficiency in the design and use of online teaching methods (e.g. Zoom)
  • Competency in online and distance education 

Candidates with the following would have an advantage:  

  • PhD in Information Technology (IT), Education, Computer Science or a closely related field
  • At least three (3) years’ experience in supervision of practicum in Information Technology (IT) or Computer Science at graduate level
  • At least three (3) years’ graduate teaching experience
  • Competency in the use of software for analysis of quantitative data

The following would be considered assets:

  • BSc in Information Technology (IT) or Computer Science
  • BSc in Information Technology (IT) or Computer Science
  • Certificate in university teaching and learning
  • Competency in the areas of Assessment and Evaluation and Research Methods in Education 

Only holders of a relevant PhD will be eligible for appointment at the Lecturer level.

 

Special Responsibilities 

  • Teaching in any of the following programmes:

           - Bachelor of Education
           - Postgraduate Diploma in Education
           - Master’s in Education

  • Designing and developing courses in the Teaching of Information Technology (IT) or Computer Science
  • Engaging in classroom supervision, supervising graduate research and conducting research aimed at improving the quality of IT/Computer Science education
  • Serving on committees at the Department, Faculty and University levels
  • Engaging in community outreach initiatives
  • Collaborating with colleagues in teaching and research projects
  • Committing to the vision, mission and values of the School of Education 

 

Personal Attributes
