Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate must:
- possess at least a Master’s degree in Chemistry with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education in the Teaching of Science (Chemistry)
- have at least submitted a research dissertation towards attainment of a relevant PhD, and be awaiting presentation and defense
Candidates should also possess:
- Five (5) years’ teaching experience in Science or Chemistry Education in a higher education environment
- Good record of research and publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals
- Proficiency in the use of online teaching methods (e.g. Zoom)
- Competence in online and distance education
Candidates with the following would have an advantage:
- PhD in Education, Chemistry or a closely related field
- At least three (3) years’ experience in supervision of practicum in Science or Chemistry at the graduate level
- At least three (3) years’ graduate teaching experience
The following would be considered assets:
- BSc in Chemistry or a closely related field
- Certificate in university teaching and learning
- Proficiency in the design and delivery of online courses
Only holders of a relevant PhD will be eligible for appointment at the Lecturer level.
Special Responsibilities
- Teaching in any of the following programmes:
o Bachelor of Education
o Postgraduate Diploma in Education
o Master’s in Education
- Designing and developing courses in the Teaching of Science or Chemistry
- Teaching Research Methods courses at the Master’s level
- Engaging in classroom supervision and supervising graduate research
- Conducting research aimed at improving the quality of Chemistry
- Serving on committees at the Department, Faculty, and University levels
- Engaging in community outreach initiatives
- Collaborating with colleagues in teaching, administration and research projects
- Committing to the vision, mission and values of the School of Education
Personal Attributes
