Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate must possess a Ph.D. in Geography, or Human Geography, or Health Geography, or Population Geography or any closely related field.
Candidates should also possess:
• At least 10 years of teaching experience at a recognized tertiary institution or university
AND
• Strong research and publication record in reputable, peer-reviewed journals
• Good track record of developing thematic research programmes and history of attracting external research funding and grants
• Experience in teaching courses related to Introductory level Statistics, and Applied Statistics in Human Geography and Environmental disciplines
• Proficiency in the following:
o Research Design
o Design of Surveys
o Research Methodology
o Qualitative Research Data Management Software
o Statistical Analysis of primary data and secondary data employing suitable statistical software/tools
Candidates with the following would have an advantage:
• Advanced level training in the use of statistical computer languages (R, SPSS or other industry standard stats packages) to analyze and interpret data and draw insights
• Experience in providing statistical guidance to postgraduate students as well as Faculty in Experimental Design, Survey Design Data Analysis for Human Geography and Environmental Science disciplines
• Evidence of successful supervision of postgraduate students
• Experience in statistical review of research proposals and scientific papers prepared for publication
• Knowledge and experience in the use of Classical and Geostatistical Software including R, SQL
• Experience forging working relationships and meaningful engagement with internal and external stakeholders (industry-relationships)
• Competency in teaching and development of training materials for online and blended learning of Statistics related to students in Human Geography
• Expertise in the use of statistical software to students and staff both in face-to-face and on-line settings
Candidates with the following would be considered assets:
• Certificate in university teaching and learning
• Experience in revision of existing curriculum or development of new curriculum and research aligns with the skills that students need in the coming years to keep abreast of sustainability and innovation
• Proficiency in communicating with research students on statistical methods and interpretation of experimental results

Special Responsibilities
• Teaching courses at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels in Geography, Environmental Management and Sustainability Studies
• Supervising graduate students at the MSc, MPhil and PhD levels in the area of expertise
• Experience in revising existing curriculum to keep abreast of development and innovation in the area of expertise
• Supervising students and staff on laboratory based and research proposals and scientific papers prepared for publication
• Developing research proposals in the area of expertise that is relevant to regional development that will attract external funding, support the involvement of graduate and undergraduate students and allow for collaborative research with stakeholders
• Forging working relationships and meaningful engagement with internal and external stakeholders
• Assuming leadership in outreach and other activities of the Department
• Translating findings into revenue-generating opportunities such as patents, collaborations, or consulting projects
Personal Attributes

• Be well rounded in Human Geography/Statistics with particular focus on the application of these subjects to solving real life problems which are commonly faced in the Geographical and Environmental fields

• Be self-motivated and capable of motivating others
• Be willing and able to work efficiently with people from different backgrounds
• Demonstrate an ability and willingness to take leadership in outreach and other activities of the department
• Possess a wide range of teaching experience at the postgraduate and undergraduate levels in Geography programmes, involving international residential field schools, lectures, tutorials, laboratory practicals, seminars, and/or fieldwork
