Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the post of Campus Bursar at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, Jamaica.

The Campus Bursar is the Chief Financial Officer of the Campus and is responsible to the Principal for the general administration and control of the financial affairs of the Campus, the generation of funds, and the overall management of the Bursary. In particular, the Campus Bursar is responsible for the submission of accurate, timely and appropriate audited financial statements, monitor and track the performance of annual budgets, oversee the efficient and effective management of the financial resources of the campus, and the development, implementation and maintenance of accounting and financial policies and systems in line with the UWI’s financial code.

The successful applicant must demonstrate a working knowledge of the operations of financial institutions, capital markets and treasury management and will be expected to work closely with the University Bursar who is responsible for the overall financial affairs of the University. He/she will assist in the preparation of annual and biennial estimates, financial reports, annual accounts, and other financial and accounting matters within the framework of the Financial Code of the University of the West Indies.

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • Master’s degree in Accounting Finance, Business or a closely related field, with Chartered or Certified Accountant designation;
  • At least ten years’ experience working in a senior leadership position;
  • At least ten years’ experience of budgetary control, pricing, a deep understanding of financial reporting standards and the application of modern accounting techniques;
  • Good working knowledge of local and regional company and income tax laws;
  • Experience working with enterprise-wide systems on Finance and HR management;
  • Experience implementing strategic initiatives and driving efficient use of resources;
  • At least seven years’ experience working in a unionised environment.
