Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate must possess at minimum, a Master’s degree in Special Needs Dentistry or equivalent with a DDS or BDS from a recognized university.
Candidates should also possess:
- A good record of research and publications in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals
- At least three (3) years’ teaching experience in the field of Special Care Dentistry at an undergraduate level in one or more of the following areas:
o Management of patients with physical, sensory, intellectual, mental, medical or
social impairment
o Provision of oral health care in patients with complex/additional needs
o Gerodontology
o Management of medical emergencies
o Medico-legal issues in the management of special care patients
o Advocacy for patients with special needs
- Expertise in at least one of the following areas:
o General Anaesthesia or Sedation care of persons requiring special care
o Management of medically compromised patients
o Gerodontology
Candidates with the following would have an advantage:
- Prior success in formulating research questions, designing research methodology, collecting and analyzing data
The following would be considered assets:
- Evidence of prior success in attracting external research and development funding
- Evidence of programme or project design, development and implementation
Key Responsibilities
- Working closely with staff in the Faculty of Medical Sciences in providing quality leadership in teaching and curriculum development
- Teaching undergraduate students
- Teaching and supervising Dental Interns
- Undertaking clinical supervision
- Participating in clinically oriented problem-based learning activities
- Supporting University assessment and examination activities
- Conducting impactful research and publications
- Teaching and supervising vocational trainees and postgraduates when required
- Conducting administrative duties as required
Personal Attributes
