Dean, Faculty of Sport, Vice-Chancellery

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the position of Dean, Faculty of Sport, Vice-Chancellery. 

The new appointment is to take effect from August 1, 2025 for a period of four (4) years, in the first instance. 

The position of Dean is an academic leadership role with responsibility for the management of the faculty which includes; budgeting and resource management; student affairs and support; external relations and community engagement; policy implementation and compliance. The Dean is expected to drive teaching, research and scholarly activities, and to develop and implement the Faculty’s vision, mission and operational plan in alignment with the University’s overall strategic goals. 

The Dean should, in collaboration with Campus Directors, Academies of Sport and consistent with University policy, facilitate an environment that encourages staff members to identify and win research funding for the Faculty. Additionally, the Dean is the Chair of the Faculty Board and also ex officio member of all committees constituted by that Board. The Dean may also be called upon to serve the University on a variety of Boards and Committees.

The successful candidate must have a strong academic and professional record, preferably at the professorial rank; demonstrated leadership experience in academia and/or in other relevant institutions; and a demonstrable passion to build a Faculty that is of service to the region at large. 

The successful candidate should possess excellent visioning and alignment, strategic thinking, networking, team leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, and a good command of both oral and written English is essential. The candidate should also demonstrate diplomacy in balancing and resolving the conflicting interests of stakeholders, while retaining the confidence and respect of all.
