Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must possess at minimum, a PhD from a recognized university in Child, Youth and Adolescent Studies or closely related field.

Candidates must also possess: 

  • At least three (3) years’ teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels at a recognized university
  • Expertise in the areas of Social Protection, Child and Adolescent Behaviour and Family Studies

Candidates with the following would have an advantage: 

  • Experience in teaching in multiple modes such as Face-to-Face, online, hybrid and blended environments
  • A good record of research and publications in reputable, peer reviewed journals in the area of Child and Youth Studies, Social Protection and Family Studies
  • Proficiency in teaching in at least three (3) of the following areas at the postgraduate level:

            o   Social Context of Child and Youth Care

            o   Intervention and Evaluation for Children and Youth

            o   Engaging with Children and Young People

            o   Children’s Rights: Policy into Practice

            o   Caribbean Social Problems

The following would be considered assets: 

  • Certificate in university teaching and learning
  • Experience in the supervision of research projects at the postgraduate level  
  • Experience in course design and curriculum review

Key Responsibilities 

  • Teaching courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Child and Youth Studies
  • Supervising postgraduate research projects and/or theses in Child and Youth Studies
  • Developing a research agenda in Child and Youth Studies and disseminating through published papers and conference presentations
  • Serving on Departmental, Faculty and University Committees
  • Attending Departmental and Faculty meetings
  • Assisting with the periodic review of the curriculum
  • Advising undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • Supporting with colleagues on Departmental activities such as outreach initiatives, research, teaching orientation and academic advising  

Personal Attributes 

The Campus places high priority on individuals of integrity who can work well in a team and student friendly environment. Candidates should also possess good communication and interpersonal skills. A good command of both oral and written English is essential.

Candidate should also: 

  • Be willing to work in an advance multidisciplinary environment
  • Be committed to supporting outreach activities that promote the multifaceted and rich aspects of the programmes and activities within the department
  • Be self-motivated and capable of motivating students  
  • Be willing to apply diverse hybrid methods of teaching 
  • Possess familiarity with tertiary level education in the Caribbean
  • Be willing to forge working relationships and meaningful engagement with external    stakeholders (industry and universities)
