Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must possess at minimum, a PhD from a recognized university, which should be in Microbiology, Environmental Microbiology or any closely related field.  

 Candidates should also possess: 

  • At least three (3) years’ teaching experience at a recognized tertiary institution/university
  • Substantial record of research and publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals
  • Proficiency in the area of Agri-food Safety Risk Analysis, Different Food Safety Hazards, Agri-food Safety Control and Management Systems 

Candidates with the following would have an advantage:

  • BSc in Agriculture, Soil Science, Food Science, Food Technology or related area
  • Experience in delivery of courses using a multidisciplinary approach at both the graduate and the undergraduate level
  • Experience in the supervision of undergraduate and post-graduate students
  • Experience in the development of a programme or courses related to the area of expertise
  • Possess skills in establishing collaboration with regional and international agencies to attract funding for research and development

The following would be considered assets:

  • Certificate in university teaching and learning
  • Experience in networking, collaborations, and access to research grants
  • Possess skills in organizing workshops, conferences and webinars preferably at national and international levels

Key Responsibilities  

  • Teaching relevant courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Microbiology, Agri- food Safety and Quality Assurance, along the food chain, Food and Environmental Microbiology, Molecular Food Microbiology, Agri-risk Analysis, Epidemiology of Foodborne Diseases, Food Quality Assurance and Analysis, Agri-Food Safety Legislation, and Food Safety and Quality Management Systems
  • Developing a research programme in the area of expertise, with a focus on Management of Agri-food Safety and Quality, Food Control, Hazard Analysis, Risk Analysis of Tropical Foods or Epidemiology of Foodborne Diseases, that will support capacity building and student development
  • Supervising graduate students at the MSc., MPhil. and PhD. levels in the area of expertise
  • Coordinating the successful delivery and periodical review of the undergraduate programmes in Microbiology, Food Microbiology, Environmental Microbiology, Molecular Microbiology, and post-graduate programmes related Agri-food Safety and Risk Analysis, Agri-food Safety and Quality Legislation, and Food Safety and Quality Management of the Quality and Safety of Agri-foods
  • Collaborating with regional and international agencies in the area of expertise to attract funding for research and development Committing to excellence in teaching and have a strong interest in mentoring students
  • Engaging with stakeholders and the department and faculty through collaborative research and outreach

Personal Attributes
